June 19, 2007 - DLOC+ gets rave review

LA Printing Upgrades its Warehouse Management System; Addison To Be Completed Next. In May, LA Printing became Unisource’s fifth distribution center operating DLOC+ -- our newest Warehouse Management System (WMS). This also marked the debut of the company’s third and final Host/WMS interface. Unisource now has in place a highly-dependable warehouse management computer system in the LA Printing distribution center that interfaces with all versions of our information technology host systems. Installing the DLOC+ Warehouse Management System lowers our operating costs and allows us to improve customer service by providing a higher-quality, more accurate inventory system that enhances inefficient processes, such as inputting data, picking product, and other manual tasks. It also provides us with an operational model that is consistent throughout our company. In the end, we are able to put in place an operationally excellent inventory process that can be implemented at any distribution center throughout Unisource. This project was successful due to the efforts of a large cross functional team. These team members exceeded expectations in the execution of a variety of tasks while working to complete the project within an aggressive deadline. The team members developed the systems interface, installed an RF network, bar-coded labels at the Commerce DC facility, and conducted over 400 hours of classroom training. In addition, they completed a physical inventory of the LA Printing warehouse and attended daily meetings during the process to ensure dynamic communication and issue resolution across functional areas. The new Warehouse Management System is an important step toward achieving an operationally excellent distribution model throughout our company. In addition to LA Printing, Atlanta, Mechanicsburg, Minneapolis and Orlando now run the DLOC+ system. The team will now be moving to our Addison location for the next WMS installation. The implementation in Addison will take place later this summer. I would like to thank everyone involved in this project for their hard work, commitment, and support in making this project a success.
